Scrolling through Instagram in March. Found something strange. One of my favorite creators, FoodDolls (Alia and Radwa Elkaffas), linked a “lemon squisher.” Called it the best of all time.
I was skeptical. I own another squeezer. A different one. This looked easier, though. So I bought it. Turns out the hype was real. ToGeeKa made a tool that actually works.
The Design Difference
Here is how most squeezers work. You stuff half a lemon in a cup. Push the top handle down. One hand does the labor.
The ToGeeKa is different. It is front-loading. Place the fruit in the center. The handles close from the sides. Think of a clam snapping shut. Or a pair of tongs biting down.
This small change changes everything.
I can use both hands. No more one-armed struggle against acidic fruit. It feels effortless, which sounds weird for manual labor, but it just works. You get so much juice, fast, that you might over-salt your dish if you aren’t paying attention.
Why is no one using side-grip squeezers sooner?
Summer Is Coming
I am making Key lime pie soon. I love the pie. I hate juicing limes. They are small, bitter, and annoying to press.
This gadget folds flat too. Easy to stash in a drawer. It doesn’t take up space.
I think I found my new kitchen staple. Or at least, it will last until the next summer.
